As the indefinite hunger strike of Rajya Sabha (RS) member C.M. Ramesh and MLC Mareddi Ravindrnath Reddy (B.Tech Ravi) entered 7th day on Tuesday, DMK MP Kanimozhi visited the dharna camp at Kadapa to extend solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Kanimozhi said the country was ruled by the party which did not care about the rights of the people living in non-BJP States. Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the hunger strike, Ms. Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, said no promise made by the Prime Minister had been fulfilled in the past four years. Mocking him for his frequent foreign visits, she said, “We do not have a full-time PM but a visiting PM. He is absent from Parliament and is careless about people’s problems.”
“We belong to the same family. That is why we understand each other. Today this nation is run by a government which does not care about the States’ rights and the people in States not ruled by the BJP. It is time to join hands and fight against the autocratic government at the Centre,” she said.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders took out bike rallies across the State in support of Mr. Ramesh and Mr. Ravi. The party decided to intensify its fight against the Central government for the implementation of various promises and the Special Category Status as part of the Reorganisation Act.
Addressing the TDP coordination committee meeting, national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said there was an overwhelming support from the public to the hunger strike.
The TDP leaders and workers would take out bike rallies on Wednesday and Thursday also. The MPs would stage a protest in Delhi on June 28 to mount pressure on the Centre to address the Kadapa steel plant issue. The dharma porata deeksha would be organised in Kakinada against the conspiracy politics on June 29, he said.
