SANDWICH – The DeKalb County Board chose
11 nonprofit groups, including Open Door Rehabilitation, to receive donations of at least $500.
Rita Potter, executive director for the Open Door Rehabilitation Center, accepted the donation that will be used to enhance services and programs for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, according to a Monday news release.
Kourtney Herren, marketing and development coordinator for Open Door, said the organization got the check from county officials June 6.
“There are a lot of nonprofits in DeKalb County,” Herren said. “So we felt really special.”
The Illinois Counties Association granted each of Illinois’ 102 counties in April a donation to distribute to nonprofits of their choice within the county.
County Board Chairman Mark Pietrowski and Vice Chairman John Frieders met with Open Door Rehabilitation Center staff to present the $500 donation. Pietrowski said county officials plan on meeting with each of the nonprofits to deliver donation checks in person.
Other nonprofits in the county that will receive similar donations are CASA DeKalb County, DeKalb Community Gardens, DeKalb County History Museum, DeKalb County Youth Services Bureau, Fox Valley Older Adult Services, Hope Haven, Oaken Acres Wildlife Center, Safe Passage, Opportunity House and Voluntary Action Center.
