BENGALURU: Taking serious note of a complaint claiming that police officers aren’t filing reports before the magistrates in several cases after registering FIRs, the Karnataka High Court ordered the DG & IGP to ascertain the number of cases wherein the police have not filed reports. The court also asked the DG & IGP to issue instructions to all the police officers to file reports after registration of FIRs.
This direction was issued by Justice K N Phaneendra, while allowing a petition filed by Action for Animal Justice, an NGO that accused the police of not conducting investigations and submitting reports before the magistrate in many cases after registering FIRs. The petitioner had produced many FIRs in support of its claim that the police have not filed reports against the accused mentioned in the complaint for violating the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Prevention Act, 1978 and the Transportation of Animals Rules, 1978 and IPC.
