The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to ask questions in the upcoming session of Parliament about the Central government’s ongoing projects to redevelop its residential colonies, party sources said on Tuesday. The AAP has come out against the redevelopment projects that are expected to lead to the felling of almost 17,000 trees in south Delhi.
Party leaders said that the three AAP Rajya Sabha MPs — Sanjay Singh, N.D. Gupta and Sushil Gupta — would raise the issue during the monsoon session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on July 18.
In several public statements in the past week, the party has opposed the redevelopment projects. AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj has said that the party wants the Centre to scrap the plans as it would lead to felling of trees as well as additional burden on resources and infrastructure like water and roads in the area.
