Canberra man arrested in relation to Daruk Boys Home abuse in Sydney

An 81-year-old Canberra man has been arrested and charged with abusing children at Daruk Boys Home in western Sydney.

Australian Federal Police officers and NSW detectives arrested the man at an Ainslie home about noon on Wednesday. He is being charged with 11 counts of indecent assault and four counts of buggery.

He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, when detectives from the Nepean Police Area Command will seek his extradition to NSW.

It’s the fourth arrest this year in relation to abuse that allegedly occurred at the Daruk Training School at Berkshire Park, near Windsor, between 1965 and 1985.

At the time, NSW police said they had identified at least 25 historic persons of interest, some of whom were dead.
