Raipur’s historic Town Hall to get a complete makeover

The Raipur Smart City Ltd (RSCL) will soon undertake redevelopment and renovation of the historic Town Hall under the Smart City Mission.

Talking to The Pioneer Mayor, Raipur, Pramod Dubey informed that RSCL last year had also decided to implement 'Heritage Walk' project in the city.

Under the ‘Heritage Walk’ renovation of historic Town Hall would be done with an approximate expenditure of Rs 40 Lakhs, he informed.

“No distortion would be done to the outer appearance of the historic building and only a major facelift of the interiors of the hall would be done under the project”, he further said.

Additionally, organised parking facilities are intended to be developed in the open space available at ground floor, he informed.

Notably, Raipur is selected as one of the Smart City Projects under Smart City Mission which has a rich cultural and built heritage.

Raipur would also be put under a ‘retrofitting plan’ covering 500 acres of land to provide facilities not present so far under the Smart City Mission, officials informed.

Notably, Raipur city was selected among 100 cities to be developed as smart city in India due to various achievements, initiatives and all-inclusive approach. Accordingly Raipur city had submitted “Smart City Proposal” (SCP) for Raipur City to Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India with required consent of Government of Chhattisgarh and statutory authority of Raipur Smart City.

The city of Raipur has been selected to be developed into a smart city under the fast track mode of first phase of the Smart Cities Mission.

The Smart City Proposal of Raipur includes the smart city solutions which involve the use of technology, information and data to improve infrastructure and services within the city of Raipur (The Smart Solutions Projects).

Raipur City is also promoting Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) with dedicated pedestrian corridors and enhanced ‘walkability’ options.
