An under production Su-30MKI aircraft of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) crashed at Nashik in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning. Both the pilots ejected safely.

"The aircraft crashed at 11:05 a.m. and the police received information about the crash at 11:15 a.m.," an official said.

According to the local Police, the jet took off from the HAL airstrip near Nashik and crashed at Wavi-Tushi village near Pimpalgaon Baswant town which is around 25 km from Nashik.

One of the pilots is a retired IAF pilot, currently employed with HAL as a test pilot. The other pilot is a serving IAF test pilot on attachment to HAL.

HAL is manufacturing the Su-30 twin engine, air superiority fighters under license from Russia. The aircraft was undergoing pre-delivery trails by the manufacturer after which it was to be handed over to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
