‘They demanded ₹10 lakh ransom’

The Eluru police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a kidnap drama allegedly staged by two unemployed youth in a bid to earn easy money and lead a luxurious lifestyle.

Long friendship

According to the III-Town police, Jayamangala Rajkumar had a long friendship with Bhanu Sai Teja and Siddhu of Jangareddigudem. They were searching for jobs after completing their studies.

On Monday evening, the trio met at Seetaramapuram on the outskirts of the town and allegedly planned a party. Both Rajkumar and Teja sent Siddhu out for water, and by the time the latter returned from the town, they duo was found missing from the spot.

Siddhu then contacted Rajkumar on his mobile phone and found that the duo was allegedly kidnapped.

He immediately approached the police and lodged a complaint stating the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₹10 lakh to free his friends. The ransom amount should be arranged by Wednesday evening, he said.

‘Easy money’

The police launched a search on Monday night and by Tuesday morning found that it was a drama staged by the duo to make their parents pay the money, which they planed to spend on their luxuries.

Both Rajkumar and Teja surrendered before the police and reportedly confessed to their ploy. Yet, the police are doubtful about the role of Siddhu in the entire episode and are questioning him.
