BENGALURU: Students holding Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards have approached the High Court of Karnataka against a notification dated June 14, 2018, issued by the Karnataka Examinations Authority denying them eligibility for seats under management quota in private medical colleges.

Hearing a petition filed by Colleen P Mallier and others, a division bench asked the Central government to spell out its stand as to whether OCI students are eligible to participate in the counselling for MBBS/BDS courses under institutional seat quota or management quota. The students contended that they have studied Class 10 and PU in Karnataka and qualified in NEET 2018. They also pointed out at certain rights provided to OCI card holders, including providing opportunity for them to appear for All India Pre-Medical Test, and eligible for MBBS admission on par with Indian citizens.
