Assistant sub-inspector of police arrested for taking bribe

Sleuths of Vigilance Bureau today arrested an (ASI) posted at Anaj Police station in while accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000, an said.

Two police officials, who were accomplices of the arrested accused, have also been booked, a of the vigilance bureau said.

Tarnjeet Singh, a resident of Abchal Nagar in Patiala, had complained to the vigilance bureau that Gurmeet Singh had demanded Rs 30,000 by threatening to lodge a false case against him, but the deal was struck at Rs 20,000.

After verifying the information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused was arrested while taking the bribe of Rs 14,000 as first installment from the complainant, the said.

During investigation it came to light that the bribe amount was to be shared by two more police officials -- and SHO's PSO Ashok Kumar, he said, adding case under Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against all the three accused and further investigations were underway.
