27% OBC quota in admission, job demanded in memo

The Samajwadi Party (SP) State unit has urged the Governor for steps to ensure welfare of the Other Backward Class (OBC) people who constitute around 52 per cent of the State population.

In a memorandum to the Governor, SP Odisha unit president Rabi Behera demanded formation of Backward Class Commission to protect the constitutional rights of the communities, implement 27 per cent reservation in admission to State sponsored colleges and universities, including medical, engineering and MBA courses, 27 per cent reservation in State Government and PSU jobs as well as in all contractual and outsourcing jobs, activate the State Backward Class Financial Corporation for  providing loans for self employment, provide financial assistance or scholarships to OBC students for higher studies, besides remunerative price to their product for which they can maintain their livelihood.
