Husband pleads not guilty to killing wife in fiery Albany farm crash
A man charged with murdering his wife in a fiery car crash near Albany 10 years ago has pleaded not guilty.
Susi Elizabeth Johnston was 56 when she died in the crash on a Borden farm in December 2008.
Police allege the mother of three had been in a car with her husband Gregory Paul Johnston when the car hit a tree and burst into flames.
Mr Johnston, who is now facing a murder charge, escaped without major injury, but Mrs Johnston was killed in the fire.
The murder charge was laid this year and just months after homicide detectives launched a fresh appeal for information about the 2008 crash.
Mr Johnston made a brief appearance in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
When the murder charge was put to him by registrar Jan Whitbread he replied "not guilty."
The court was told a significant amount of disclosure had been given to Mr Johnston's defence team and the case was ready to be committed to trial.
The 61-year-old, who is on bail, will appear in the WA Supreme Court in August.
