The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the ATM fraud case.

BJP local unit president V. Saminathan told presspersons here on Monday that the three accused arrested from Tamil Nadu had said that they procured the online data of credit cards from Russian hackers.

The accused had confessed that most of the targeted customers were from abroad.

The case definitely had an inter-State and international ramification.

He questioned the reluctance of the Puducherry government in handing over the case to the CBI. There had been allegations of involvement of certain politicians. Hence, a probe by the central agency was necessary, he said.

If the government hesitated to order a probe, the Lt. Governor should step in and seek an investigation by the CBI, the BJP leader said.

Bus fare hike

Mr. Saminathan criticised the government for increasing the bus fare.

The hike would impact the livelihood of around 3 lakh workers who travel to work on a daily basis.

The party wanted the Lt. Governor to inspect the polluting industries in Kalapet.

A major cause for concern for the residents of Puducherry was the pollution caused by a particular industry at Kalapet, he said.
