Complainant seeks to know the status of investigation in the case

The Crime Branch on Monday informed a court here that efforts are being made to probe the sexual assault charges against self-styled god-man Daati Maharaj and others levelled by a woman in a complaint.

Investigating Officer Asha filed a status report in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Preeti Talwar on a court direction on the complainant’s application, which sought to know the status of the probe. Ms. Ashasaid, “The allegations are more than two years old, and an all-out effort is being made to establish the veracity of the allegations and the alibi taken by the accused persons”.

The victim, in her complaint lodged with the Fatehpur Beri police in south Delhi on June 7 this year, had alleged that Daati Maharaj alias Madanlal Rajasthani and three others sexually assaulted her in January and March in 2016 at his Delhi Ashram and then at Gurukul Ashwasan Baal Gram in Rajasthan.

She underwent a medical examination and her statement was also recorded by the police before a Metropolitan Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.

The status report further said that the Delhi Ashram was searched and CCTV footage and DVR were seized. People who were present there were also examined, the report said. Daati Maharaj and the other accused persons were interrogated when they joined the investigation , the report stated, adding that all the accused denied the allegations.

Case transferred

Another Metropolitan Magistrate court later transferred the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Saket Courts, who will consider the status report filed by the police on Tuesday.

The court also directed the Investigating Officer in the case to be present in the court of the CMM.
