Petlaburj dacoity: PD Act invoked against prime accused

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar invoked Preventive Detention Act against Amjad Khwaja Ameen Shaik (41), a resident of Thane in Maharashtra, who along with his other gang members looted a jewellery-making unit in Petlaburj and made off with over 3.5 kg of gold on March 6.

On Thursday Charminar police executed the preventive detention order on Shaik and remanded him to Chanchalguda Central Prison.

“The accused is involved in several robberies and dacoities in Maharashtra and other States since 1995,” he said.

Shiak put together his gang and conducted several rounds of recce of gold workshops before committing the offence at knife-point.

Mr. Kumar said due to his activities, owners of business establishments especially bullion merchants were feeling insecure to run their business fearing dacoity.

On March 14 the Charminar police arrested the accused and recovered gold ornaments valued at ₹ 6.5 lakh from his possession.
