NEW DELHI: Murder accused Indian Army Major who allegedly killed another major's wife Shailja Dwivedi has been sent to 4 days police custody. Cops in these four days will take the accused major Nikhil Handa to his house in Saket and Meerut to recover the weapon used in the crime. They will also record details of the weapon like from where he purchased the knife, when he purchased it. During investigation, it was found that Handa was very active on Social media sites and also had a fake Facebook profile.
Metropolitan Magistrate Manisha Tripathy granted the custody of Major Nikhil Handa, who was produced before the court amid tight security, to the police who said he has to be taken to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh to make recover his clothes and the weapon used to commit the crime.
"Since the weapon, clothes worn by the accused at the time of offence are to be recovered, the place from where the victim was picked up by the accused and route followed by the accused to the place of occurrence is to be ascertained, the persons contacted by the accused after commission of the crime are to be ascertained, the source of weapon of offence is to be established, the places where the accused visited after the commission of crime from Delhi to Meerut are to be ascertained, in my considered opinion, four days police custody is justified," the magistrate said.
Meanwhile, according to the sources, Nikhil was very active on social media sites mainly Facebook where he had a fake profile also. "He was very active on Facebook. During his interrogation, he told us that he was also in touch with three females as well and now we will try to contact all three females to record there statement," a police official said.
Major Handa was arrested on Sunday from Meerut for his alleged involvement in the killing of Major Amit Dwivedi's wife Shailja in west Delhi on Saturday. The woman's body was found with her throat slit near the Brar Square in the Delhi Cantonment area. Later, Handa tried to hide evidences and made it an accident case by running over his car over Shailja's body twice. He also tried to clean the car with towels.
