COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A slate of primary contests across America Tuesday will again test President Donald Trump's clout within his own party. Voters are weighing in on candidates in seven states, but the contest that matters most to Trump is South Carolina, where he appeared at a rally to help Gov. Henry McMaster hours before polls opened. With the November general election nearly four months away, more than half of all states will have selected their general-election candidates after the day's votes are counted.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Nearly 100 educators and administrators are running for seats in the Oklahoma Legislature during a primary election that also will narrow the crowded field for governor and decide the nation's first medical marijuana ballot question this year. After massive demonstrations from teachers at the Capitol, the educators are running for state House and Senate seats. Some even are Republicans challenging GOP incumbents who voted against tax increases that funded teacher pay hikes.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma voters are winnowing a crowded field of candidates seeking the state's top job following an eight-year reign of Republican dominance across state government. With no race for the U.S. Senate this cycle, much of the money and attention has focused on the 15 candidates trying to succeed term-limited Gov. Mary Fallin. With 10 of those running in the GOP contest, that nomination likely won't ultimately be settled until a two-way runoff on Aug. 28.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Trust for Historic Preservation is identifying 11 places around the U.S. that it says are at risk because of development or neglect. The annual list can mobilize support and funding for preservation but listings can also be controversial if they involve halting proposed construction or demolition. This year's list ranges from Route 66 to Denver's Larimer Square to African-American historic sites in Connecticut and Mississippi.
