Two arrested in Odisha for robbing, killing TTE

CUTTACK: Chauliaganj police on Monday arrested two persons for robbing and killing a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) Priya Ranjan Jena recently. The arrested accused duo have been identified as Amritraj Sahoo alias Gudu (26) of Ranihat Telisahi and Sunil Sahoo alias Benga (20) of Rajuapatna in Dhenkanal presently residing at Ranihat Sagadia Sahi.

DCP Akhilesvar Singh said that after his duty at Cuttack Railway Station, the 31-year-old TTE Priya Ranjan Jena of Bramhan Bada under Kandarpur police station was returning home on his motorcycle on June 17 at about 10 pm when the accused who were following him from OMP square on a scooter intercepted him at an isolated place on Cuttack-Paradip road near Bidyadharpur and attempted to rob him.
Jena was assaulted mercilessly by the accused persons when he resisted their robbery attempt.  Amritraj dealt a heavy blow on the back of the victim’s head using a screw driver following which Jena lost consciousness and fell down.

The accused duo then took away his mobile phone, wrist watch, laptop bag containing `700 and other official papers and fled the spot.Later, acting on information, police rescued Jena and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital from where he was shifted to AMRI Hospital in Bhubaneswar by his family members for better treatment. Unfortunately, while undergoing treatment, Jena succumbed to his injuries on June 22.

Acting on an FIR filed by Parsuram Jena, police conducted an investigation and apprehended the accused duo involved in the incident. Police have seized the blood stained screw driver, the stolen bike, mobile phone, laptop bag, wrist watch, pay slip, Aadhar card and train ticket of the deceased from their possession.
