BENGALURU: The state government is thinking of increasing the fee in government medical colleges.
A senior Medical Education Department official told TNIE that the issue was discussed at a recent meeting.“The meeting was chaired by Medical Education Minister D K Shivakumar. It (fee hike) is at the discussion level and no concrete decision has been taken yet,” the official said. Sources privy to the discussion said the department is thinking of increasing the fee by 10 per cent.
The fee charged at present is Rs 19,000 per year. During a recent meeting, Shivakumar said, “The fee charged by government medical colleges is low when compared to private ones and have not been revised for years. Considering this, we are thinking of revising the fee.”
