TNIE impact: Karnataka child rights panel to ask government to hire more school teachers in Kalaburagi
The panel chairperson said that though it is a backward region and is covered under Article 371(J) for special reservation in recruitment, the basic need of appointing teachers has bene neglected.

KALABURAGI: The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious note of the report titled ‘75 schools in Kalaburagi region have one permanent teacher each’, published in The New Indian Express on Tuesday, and has decided to write to the government to recruit more teachers in these schools on a priority basis.
Commission chairperson Kripa Alva contacted the Express correspondent after reading the story in the paper and sought a few more details about the report. She wondered whether the government has any humanistic approach on such issues. "How can the children get quality education and be disciplined in such schools?" she asked.
Alva admitted that accountability could not be fixed on guest teachers or teachers on deputation. "It is the duty of the government to ensure quality education and discipline for children from lower primary schools itself. It is shocking that though Hyderabad Karnataka is a backward region and is covered under Article 371(J) for special reservation in recruitment, the basic need of appointing teachers has been neglected," she said.
Alva said she will request the government shortly to recruit more teachers in such schools in Kalaburagi region on priority basis.
