BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Library aims to get the entire town reading the same book this summer.
The library is launching “One Town, One Read,” a program that builds community spirit by encouraging residents to read and discuss the same book, according to a release.
This is the first time the library has held “One Town, One Read,” but the program started in Seattle in 1998 and spread across the country.
The library will reveal which book the town will read at an event from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The event will include live music, games, crafts for kids and a demonstration from the Brookfield Craft Center. The library will provide beverages and dessert.
“We searched for a book this year that would be timely and would appeal to people of all ages,” Library Director Yvonne Cech said in a release. “We looked for one that had a solid story and would inspire exciting programs. We want to highlight the importance of reading together as a family and as a community.”
The library will hold events related to the book throughout July and August. Weekly clues and programming information will be available on the library’s social media and website.
