Chiefs have not spoken to Eymael, says Motaung

2018-06-26 18:23

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has revealed that the club has not spoken to Luc Eymael about the coaching job vacated by Steve Komphela.

Amakhosi have been linked with a wide range of coaches, including Patrice Carteron, Avram Grant, Stuart Baxter, and Free State Stars boss Eymael.

However, Carteron has been snapped up by Al Ahly and Grant is reportedly being courted by Panathinaikos.

Despite being an attractive option for Motaung, Baxter remains in charge of the South African national team.

"We actually brought in some quality coaches. Unfortunately, the competition is stiff. Three of the coaches we have interviewed have been snatched," Motaung revealed in a press conference as quoted by eNCA website.

"We have got one or two more coaches we are finalising with. Hopefully soon, once the pre-season starts, we want to have our coach."

He continued: "Luc Eymael... we have never spoken to him, I must be clear. Stuart has been linked with us. He's a high-quality coach, high-level coach if he's available.

"I would love to have him definitely back with the team as people know that he is a high-level coach and he understands the squad.

"He will be hitting the ground running if it happens, but unfortunately, he is with SAFA now. He is a SAFA coach," he added.

Motaung's words echo claims made by Eymael. The Belgian has repeatedly denied reports of contact with Amakhosi.

"Again, false rumours linking me with Kaizer Chiefs. I want to repeat again that I have not been contacted," Eymael wrote on Twitter in May.

Chiefs finished third in the 2017/18 Premiership, with Komphela resigning in April following fan violence and being temporarily replaced by Patrick Mabedi.
