KOLKATA: Former Trinamool Congress minister Humayun Kabir joined BJP on Monday evening in New Delhi. He joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP national general secretary and the party's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya.
After being a veteran Congress leader, Humayun Kabir joined TMC where he was made a minister. However, he was expelled from TMC in 2015 for 'anti-party activities'. He then joined Samajwadi Party and later rejoined Congress before moving to BJP. Kabir urged fellow Murshidabad resident and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Adhir Ranjan Choudhury to join BJP to fight TMC.
Kabir will hold a public meeting at Rejinagar in Murshidabad between July 7 and 10.
On the other hand, state BJP President Dilip Ghosh said that many major politicians will join BJP in July which will give a 'heart attack' to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. "Big leaders will join BJP in July which will give heart attack to 'Didimoni'. You have to wait and watch. Many old-timers in TMC are vexed with the party and want to join BJP as they see it as an alternative to TMC," he said.
