New rules for PM Narendra Modi's security may not allow even ministers to get too close to him

Recently, home minister Rajnath Singh said that his ministry has set up a committee to review PM's security and it will be a continuous process.
Following up on the recent threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security after a letter by an alleged Maoist revealed a plot to assasinate him in the same way as Rajiv Gandhi was, the home ministry has come out with new rules to ensure Prime Minister's safety, NDTV reported.

The home ministry has written to all the states mentioning about an "unknown threat" to PM Narendra Modi's security ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Even ministers and senior officers without security clearnace can't come close to the prime minster.

"Special instructions have been given to the close protection team (CPT) around the PM. No one can be in close proximity of the PM if not needed," the news channel quoted a senior officer tasked with PM's security as saying.
