NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday reacted to Congress likening Prime Minister
Narendra Modi to Aurangzeb by saying it was the opposition party that had followed the controversial Mughal ruler as its role model.
“Congress should know their ties with Aurangzeb and Mughals. They were acknowledged by
Mani Shankar Aiyar who said just as in the case of Mughals, it was understood Aurangzeb will take over from Shahjehan, it was clear that Rahul Gandhi will succeed
Rajiv Gandhi,” BJP media chief Anil Baluni said.
Baluni accused Congress of glorifying Aurangzeb despite the latter’s communal outlook. “They put him on a pedestal, glorified him by naming an important thoroughfare in Delhi after him and glossed over the atrocities he committed on Hindus,” the Rajya Sabha member added.
He further said Congress, instead of apologising for the “murder of democracy” during the Emergency, had tried to deflect attention by targeting the PM. The attack came as BJP observed the 43rd anniversary of imposition of Emergency by slamming Congress.
Law minister Ravishankar Prasad said Emergency was part of Congress’s
DNA. “When it loses elections, it blames EVMs and the EC,” Prasad said
