Gurgaon: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Monday razed 18
farmhouses near AIIMS in Jhajjar, along the Gurgaon-Jhajjar road.
The drive took place in Farrukhnagar where illegally constructed farmhouses had been mushrooming to cater to the hospitality needs of patients visiting AIIMS.
However, considering the importance of an institute like AIIMS for Haryana, officials cleared the area of the unauthorized constructions. There are around a dozen
illegal shops too, in the area, which remained untouched since they fall under the jurisdiction of Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
DTCP carried out the demolition drive in an unauthorized farmhouse colony in the revenue estate of village Jhanjhrola in Farrukhnagar. The colony was spread over an area of 2.5 acres, located around half a kilometer away from AIIMS near the Gurgaon-Jhajjar border.
Officials from the enforcement wing demolished 18 farmhouses having plots of sizes ranging from 300 to 500 sq yards. The plot owners had built the boundary walls as high as 9 feet in the area.
“Residents and property dealers had illegally constructed farmhouses in this area. They thought of business prospects of catering to the patients and their attendants who come to the hospital. However, AIIMS is an extremely important project for the state. Any unauthorized construction or activity surrounding it will definitely face action. We have spared the shops in the area for now. However, we recommend that the owners restore these as we are going to inform GMDA about the same and eventually an action will be taken against the shops too,” said Rajendra Sharma, district town planner (enforcement).
