A special memorial match has been organised next month in tribute to a much-missed North Wales football administrator who passed away late last year.

Buckley Town FC will host the game in honour of former North East Wales League secretary Mike Beech on Sunday, July 15.

A North East Wales League 2017-18 Select will take on Buckley at The Globe, kick-off 1pm.

Match officials for the day are Ian Reid, Graham Thomas and Kevin Bowker, while the North East Wales team will be managed by Matt Oddie.

Mike, who was 62, lived in Buckley, and died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital after collapsing while out at work.

He became secretary of the NEWL on its formation in 2011 and his efficiency in the role was second to none.

His daughter Nicki and wife of 35 years Carol have since taken on the running of the league.

Delwyn Derrick of NEWL club Bellevue FC is organising next month's memorial game.

He said: "Could all clubs please nominate two players to represent their club on the team and send the names and positions of the players to me at your earliest convenience.

"This will allow me to collate all of the information together for Matt to make his selection. Using roll on/roll off subs. We should be able to ensure that every players will get game time and it is recommended you select versatile players, so that we don’t end up with a team of 22 strikers.

"If the two selected players from each club are able to pay £5 match subs on the day, it would allow the clubs in this league to make a sizeable donation in Mike’s memory for the great work he did in this league.

"With this in mind, Buckley are donating admissions to Mike’s family as well, so please make sure your clubs are represented on the day so that we can pack the ground and make it a great day for Mike."

Admission will be £2 for adults (children free) and Buckley are also holding a raffle at half time with all donations again going to Nicki, Carol and the rest of the family.

It is planned to use proceeds to purchase a cup to be played for annually in Mike's memory.

Delwyn added: "I know that the World Cup final is on that Sunday, but our match will be nicely wrapped up in time for people to watch it. Let’s make sure we put on a great game for Mike."

Mike gave up a lot of his time over many years to local football in the area and had been connected with several clubs in North Wales such as Conwy United, Holywell Town, Cefn Druids and also in England with Chester City to name but a few.
