All area six-man head football coaching jobs have recently been filled after a hectic offseason of changes at the state’s smallest classification.
Crowell hired Santa Anna’s Tom McVey last week to replace two-time state champion Nathan Hayes. McVey is coming off a 14-18 stint with the Mountaineers and takes over a program that won 64 games in the past seven seasons.
McVey also had head coach stints at Trinidad, Covington, Milford and Blum. The Wildcats are coming off a 7-4 record and will be moving up to Division I this fall.
Forestburg tagged a hometown coach to run its football program as Cori Hayes takes over for Tommy Tritz, who went 8-3 in one season before accepting the same role at Oakwood. Hayes had already been at Forestburg as the team’s volleyball and girls basketball coach.
Chillicothe opted to break up the AD/head football coaching duties as defensive coordinator Mike Woodard was promoted to replace Clint Miller as the football program’s leader. Superintendent Todd Wilson will assume the athletic director responsibilities.
The other area six-man coaching changes for next fall were Aspermont’s Julian Manchaca taking over at Newcastle and Justin Willis becoming the latest coach at Throckmorton. Willis was the baseball coach at New Summerfield, a 2A school near Jacksonville that didn’t have a high school football program.
