BENGALURU: A case of extortion has been filed against two policemen attached to Mahadevapura police station based on a court directive.  Assistant Sub Inspector Amrutesh and Head Constable Jayakiran are accused of demanding a bribe from the complainant Prakash, a businessman.

A senior police officer said the case was filed a few days ago and Prakash revealed it to the media. The case was being investigated by Assistant Commissioner of Police and the report is yet to be submitted to the court. Police, including Amrutesh and Jayakiran, raided a gambling centre two months ago and Prakash was arrested while others had managed to escape.

Prakash was arrested on the charge of gambling. Later, Prakash had approached human rights commission and a court and sought action against Amrutesh and Jayakiran accusing them of harassing him to pay a bribe so he could be given a clean chit in the gambling case.

The city court, after hearing the plea, had directed to file a case against the accused and an FIR was registered. Prakash has alleged that he was taken into police custody on the pretext of questioning over gambling case and both the cops threatened that they would fix him in other cases, too, if he failed to pay the bribe. He had given some money and when they tried to extort more money from him, he was directed by the commission to approach the court, the officer said.
