SHANGHAI (AP) - China Labor Watch says three activists who were arrested while investigating abuses at Ivanka Trump's Chinese suppliers last year were released from bail on Tuesday, but questions remain about their ability to live and work freely.

The men were detained for a month last year as they prepared a report alleging low pay, excessive overtime and verbal and physical abuse at a Huajian Group shoe factory in southeastern China. China Labor Watch says bail was lifted Tuesday but the men had to sign documents stating that their actions had caused the factory financial harm, which could give the authorities ongoing leverage.

One of the investigators, Hua Haifeng, hopes to travel to the U.S. for a four-month stint as a visiting researcher at Cornell University, according to China Labor Watch.
