Two persons, including a woman were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing the woman’s brother in-law in Ghazipur on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Kumar Singh said that Mohit Bhati (29) and Pooja (26) have been arrested for the murder of Pooja’s brother in-law Manoj Kumar.
Extra-marital affair
Manoj allegedly used to tease Pooja about her relationship with Mohit, the police said. Mohit had allegedly killed Pooja’s husband and Manoj’s elder brother Mukesh last year after Mukesh came to know about the extra marital affair and started complaining about it.
Manoj had gone to bring water from the godown he used to work at on Saturday morning. He was found dead in the godown after which a murder case was registered. The post-mortem revealed that he died of a bullet injury.
Mr. Singh said that call records of the deceased and people connected to him were obtained and examined which led police suspect Mohit. Based on a tip-off, Mohit was arrested from Dadri. Mohit told the police that he became friends with Mukesh as they were neighbours. Mohit started visiting Mukesh’s house often and soon became friends with Pooja. Their relationship grew intimate.
“Mukesh noticed the intimacy between them and used to fight with Pooja over it. She complained of the same to Mohit after which he and his accomplices killed Mukesh in U.P. The case is being investigated by the U.P. Police,” Mr. Singh also said.
After Mukesh’s murder, Manoj brought Pooja to Ghazipur. He was aware of her relationship with Mohit, the police said. “Manoj used to tease her about the relationship which she did not like. She told this to Mohit and the two decided to eliminate Manoj,” Mr. Singh said.
Pooja informed Mohit when Manoj left the house to bring water from the godown. Mohit came shot him dead and fled the spot.
