Chart of the day: Where does Australia's rubbish come from?
Posted
Australia makes a lot of rubbish. We're one of the biggest waste producers per person in the world. But where's it all coming from?
Although cutting down on household waste is important, Australian households aren't our biggest source of landfill.
That title goes to the commercial and industrial sector, which includes restaurants, offices, retail and manufacturing.
Our second biggest waste makers are construction and demolition — things like road and rail construction.
But when it comes to recycling, Australian households have some catching up to do — we recycle less than half the rubbish we make.
