Steps to be taken for safety of women in cabs

Transport Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh, who held a meeting with taxi aggregators and drivers on Monday, said the department is working on security measures to make travelling in app-based taxis safer for women. “The taxi aggregators will be made to comply with these measures,” said Mr. Singh.

In the first week of June, the city police arrested an Ola driver for allegedly harassing a woman passenger on he way to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Tanveer Pasha, a representative of the drivers, said: “There is a need to make the aggregators accountable as well when women passengers get harassed. They are equally responsible for failing to install security measures like panic buttons. ”

Monday’s meeting was convened to discuss issues of drivers, as per the direction of the Chief Minister.

The drivers had complained of poor earnings, not getting required bookings, and accused the Transport Department of fixing unscientific fares, which only favours aggregators and others.
