DeKALB – Police are investigating a stabbing early Monday morning off campus, according to a Northern Illinois University safety bulletin.

The aggravated battery occurred about 12:34 a.m. in the 900 block of W. Hillcrest Drive, according to the bulletin. The victim was reportedly stabbed by a light-skinned male who fled, police said.

Police said people should avoid the area while they continue to investigate the incident. Around 10 a.m. Monday, there was no visible police presence, and several residents in the neighborhood said they knew nothing of the incident.

This is the second safety report sent through NIU this month, despite the spring semester having commenced.
