An inter-State habitual property offender allegedly attempted to end his life by slitting his throat inside the SR Nagar police station here on Friday night. The detenu, involved in more than 35 cases in TS, AP and Tamil Nadu, was identified as Nagesh. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital for treatment in an Interceptor police vehicle.

Sources said he attempted suicide allegedly due to third degree methods adopted by the S.R. Nagar police to ascertain whereabouts of his associate Ibrahim Siddique, another property offender involved in more than 100 cases here. Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates here. The police immediately rushed him to Osmania General Hospital for treatment in an Interceptor police vehicle and remanded him on Saturday.

“Nagesh has a criminal history since 2008 and was actively involved in house burglary in three State,” sources said, adding that he was associated with several property offenders and helped them in disposing the booty.

Earlier, he was remanded by the Punjagutta police in a property offence case.

However, police maintained that Nagesh created a scene to mislead the investigation. Efforts to contact S.R. Nagar Inspector Mohammed Waheeduddin proved futile.

In November last year, a video clip ‘exposing’ the alleged custodial assault of a 27-year-old history sheeter at the S.R. Nagar Police Station went viral on social media.

The accused, Mohammed Tanveer was arrested by police for criminal intimidation and trespassing on a house in Yellareddyguda. The video secretly shot by him in the washroom showing various injuries inflicted on him was sent to his family members, who reportedly released it to the media.
