HYDERABAD: A
school bus which came to pick up a boy from his residence, ended up committing a
mishap where in the boy’s 21-months-old sister died after she came under the wheels of the school bus in Gopigadda in Shabad on Monday.
Shabad police said that a bus belonging to Shabad-based Montessori High School came to pick up four-year-old Sathvik Reddy at Gopigadda, where his family resides. Around 7.45 am, Sathvik and his mother Lavanya came out their house and her daughter M
Adiya, 21-month-old, tagged with them.
When Lavanya was busy looking at her son get into the bus and see him off, Adiya started to walk and stood in front of the school bus. "As neither the mother nor the bus driver noticed that Adiya was standing in front of the left tyre of the school bus, the driver started the bus while Lavanya was saying bye to the boy. In fraction of a second, the mishap took place as the girl came under the wheels with her head getting crushed. While Lavanya raised alarm the bus driver Jangaiah halted it," Shabad Sub-Inspector M Ravi Kumari said.
Police said at the time of mishap, the mother did not hold the hand of the victim, who has been toddling from last few months, assuming that the girl was standing behind her. Everyday either the mother or father along with the toddler, would see off Sathvik when the school bus came.
Immediately after the
accident, the locals gathered and smacked Jangaiah before he was handed over to the Shabad police. A case was registered under 304 a (negligence causing death) of IPC against Jangaiah and authorities of Montessori High School. It was observed that in the school bus there was no
care taker.
