NEW DELHI: Two
brothers were allegedly
murdered in a span of
two weeks by a man who was involved in an
illicit relationship with one of the
victims’ wife.
Mohit Bhati (29), an unemployed, married man who used to live in the neighbourhood of Pooja (26) in Dadri, was warned by her husband, Mukesh Kumar (30), a sweeper, after he got to know about their relationship. But instead of backing off, Bhati planned the murder along with the victim’s wife and dumped the body on the railway tracks near Dadri in Uttar Pradesh on June 9, said sources. The victim’s brother met with the same fate in Ghazipur last Saturday when he also tried to stop Bhati from meeting the woman.
Deputy commissioner of police (east) Pankaj Kumar Singh said both Bhati and Pooja had been arrested.
Cops unearthed the mystery while investigating the murder of Manoj Kumar (28), who was found shot in a warehouse near his home in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Saturday morning. The family has been living in the area for the past five months.
Kumar’s wife, Seema, told the police that her husband had gone to the warehouse — where he used to work as well — to fill a bucket of water. “I went looking for him when he didn’t return after an hour. A trail of blood was coming out of the small gap between the doors of the office and I found him lying in a pool of blood inside,” she said.
After scanning nearby CCTV cameras, the police spotted a man running in a black shirt with blood marks. He was identified as Bhati, a neighbour of Manoj’s missing brother, Mukesh. The investigating team arrested Bhati and got to know about the double murder.
Bhati told cops that after catching him and Pooja together, Mukesh had started beating his wife. Pooja complained to Bhati and he decided to kill Mukesh.
The accused took Mukesh out of his house on the pretext of resolving the matter and shot him. The victim’s brother lodged a missing complaint report but even as a team of the Uttar Pradesh police searched for him, another team found a disfigured body on the railway tracks in Dadri and cremated it as it couldn’t be identified.
Meanwhile, Manoj took Pooja and her daughter to his house in Ghazipur but started blaming her for the situation. In a bid to unite with her lover, Pooja then planned the second murder and told Bhati about Manoj’s daily routine. On Saturday, the accused was waiting near the warehouse where the victim used to come every morning, and shot him, police officers said.
Manoj has been survived by his mother, wife and three kids, aged 10, 8 and 2 years, respectively.
