Police to seek his custody

The Ernakulam Central police will soon seek the custody of S.N. Krishnan Nair, an NRI accused of issuing a death threat to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through social media, for further interrogation.

The accused, who was brought to Kochi by train from New Delhi early Monday, was subjected to a preliminary round of interrogation. Later, he was produced in court and remanded.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to issuing the threat under the influence of alcohol, the police said. He landed in Delhi last week and the police there took him into custody based on a look-out circular issued by the Kerala police. He was the sent to Tihar jail in judicial custody.

He had on Facebook live threatened to eliminate the Chief Minister and abused Power Minister M.M. Mani. Though he issued an apology later, the Ernakulam Central police booked a case against him under Sections 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 294 (b) (utters any obscene words, in or near any public place) of the IPC.
