Eddie Jones: Boks deserved to win series

2018-06-25 14:33

Cape Town - England coach Eddie Jones believes that the Springboks were deserved winners over the course of the three-Test series between the sides.

England won the third and final Test 25-10 at Newlands on Saturday, but their defeats in Johannesburg (42-39) and Bloemfontein (23-12) meant that they lost the series 2-1.

Saturday's result was Jones's first win in six Test matches, and he said after the match that the Boks deserved to win.

"If you look back at the last two Tests we put ourselves in positions to win the games, but when the scoreboard or pressure changed we haven't handled those situations well," he said.

"Today we kept our composure and just focused on the next play.

"I thought it was a great series of rugby. I think for the healthiness of Test rugby it was fantastic. You had a South African side that is revitalised and well-coached with a good balance of players that played some good rugby. You had a young England side out here finding its way.

"In the first two games South Africa were too good, and they deserved to win the series, but there were only small margins in it."
