Out of government, PDP MLAs busy with fasting, yoga, family outings

SRINAGAR: It’s time for introspection, fasting, yoga, family outings and relaxation for legislators of the People’s Democratic Party after their government fell out of power on June 19. As their dreams of completing their sixyear term in the government crashed, many opted to destress themselves to cope with the sudden shocker.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti rarely comes out of her Fair View residence on high security Gupkar Road in Srinagar ever since she resigned on June 19. She is busy meeting party workers and has occasional visits from her colleagues. Mufti is yet to convene a meeting to explore “‘what happened, why it happened and what to do”. She is, however, active on twitter.
While she faces the challenge of keeping her flock together, her colleagues are on a journey of rediscovery. “I am attending to my ailing mother.
After all, this is the essence of life. This is what gives me pleasure. I am oblivious to any political developments,” said former finance minister and wellknown businessman, Altaf Bukhari, around whom several rumours of future political possibilities float.
Several PDP ministers were still signing files in their offices when BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav announced the end of the alliance. Later, Governor NN Vohra put all the orders passed by the PDP-BJP government on June 19, in abeyance. In a matter of few hours, the ministers who had extremely busy schedules were staring at an empty engagement calendar.
“I now get time to do Yoga in the morning and go for a walk at Royal Spring Golf Course in the evening. I attend select marriage functions...,” former works minister and PDP-BJP spokesperson, Naem Akhtar told ET. Despite the downturn, PDP MLAs are trying to portray the party as a ‘good loser’ and strong contenders in the next elections.
“I kept fast for some days after Eid. It is a good way to introspect and detox. Everything is fine otherwise..., Zahoor Ahmad Mir, told ET.
Some PDP ministers legislators, including Imran Raza Ansari, have gone to ‘mysterious trips’ to New Delhi, while others have gone to Jammu and tourist resorts like Pahalgam.
