BATHINDA: A farmer in Gurne Khurd village, Mansa, was arrested on Sunday for allegdly murdering his 19-year-old daughter on the suspicion that she was in a relationship with a youth of the same village.
Joga Singh is learnt to have caught his daughter talking on mobile phone on Saturday night. He allegedly strangulated Kulwant Kaur, second-year student of Bachelor of Computer Applications.
A source said the family members were sleeping when Joga woke up to find his daughter talking on phone. Livid, he strangled his daughter with her
dupatta and went back to sleep after that.
Family members learned about the incident on Sunday morning. Villagers said Joga suspected his daughter was in a relationship with a boy of the same village and used to inquire from them about it.
Budhlada deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rachhpal Singh said a police team reached the village and found signs of strangulation on the neck of the deceased. “A case of murder has been registered against Joga and he has been arrested,” he said.
