Potholes to be filled by Friday

KOCHI:Considering the bad state of the roads in and around Vyttila junction, which has become a nightmare for commuters, the district administration has come up with a comprehensive plan.
As per the plan, the potholes on the roads near Vyttila Junction will be filled on a war-footing. The departments concerned were asked to carry out the repair work before June 28. District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla who visited Vyttila junction on Sunday also instructed PWD officers to make sure the laying of tiles on the road going towards Palarivattom is completed on Sunday night.

The road near the Hotel Masafi, the area near the signal point, the portion in front of the temple and the service road near Anugraha Hotel are also in a bad state. Safirulla asked the PWD to fill the potholes and instructed the Kerala Water Authority assistant engineer to fill the big pit which had developed in the middle of the underpass. All the potholes in the roads surrounding Vyttila junction will be filled by Saturday, June 30. The potholes at the triangle junction near the taxi stand will be filled before June 29 and the road will be opened for traffic on June 30. Safirulla said the entire highway stretch at Vyttila junction will be ready for traffic by July 1.

The re-tarring of the road in front of Hotel Masafi will be completed before July 2. The vehicles will be rerouted for one night to complete the tarring. The potholes in the underpass and at the service road in front of the Bismi shop will be filled soon. The plan is to complete the levelling work of the service road and the highway near the Anugraha Hotel before July 12. The barricades will also be removed after the levelling of roads. Tiles will be laid at the area near the main signal at a length of 20-30 metres. A review meeting to assess the progress of the work will be convened every two days. The first such review meet will be convened on Tuesday.
