NEW DELHI: Three members of a family were killed while another was seriously injured when their Toyota car rammed a parked truck on Mangolpuri flyover in outer Delhi on Sunday.
Additional DCP (outer) Rajender Singh Sagar said the victims have been identified as Harvinder Madan (52), Bharti Madan (50) and Satya Ranjan (50) and a case under IPC Sections of dangerous driving (279), causing hurt (337) and causing death due to negligence (304A) has been registered.

A preliminary probe revealed that the victims were going to their house in Paschim Vihar from Ferozpur, Punjab, where they had gone to meet a ‘baba’. The family was travelling in a Toyota Etios Liva car. As the car was coming down of the Mangolpuri flyover in a high speed, it crashed into a truck carrying marble stone.

The owner of the truck, Hariram Gujjar, told police that the driver Raju and helper Mukesh had brought the marble from Rajasthan to Delhi, and had parked the truck on the flyover as the place where it was to be delivered was not open then.

Police suspect the car’s driver to have fallen asleep and failed to notice the tuck. The car rammed the heavy vehicle, killing three people on the spot, while the injured, Gurvinder Singh, is critically injured and unfit to give his statement.

Eyewitnesses said the speeding car hit the truck and in impact, its front portion got completely crushed. As the police team reached the accident spot, a crane was called to pull out the wreckage and recover the occupants of the car. During investigation, it emerged that the truck driver had not put on any indicator to alert the incoming traffic. He only woke up when the car crashed and fled from the spot with the helper.

Police said Harvinder Madan used to run a deaddiction centre with his wife, while Satya Ranjan had a homeopathic clinic in Paschim Vihar.

The CCTV cameras of the area are being scanned to ascertain the exact sequence events. The driver and the helper have been traced to Rajasthan and a team has been sent there to arrest them.
