NOIDA: Three robbers who allegedly attempted to loot a store room of Sector 20 power substation a fortnight ago were nabbed after a shootout early on Monday. One of them sustained bullet injuries and has been admitted to the district hospital in Sector 30.
A single-barrel 0.12 bore gun stolen from the gunman of the store room, a 0.32 bore pistol, three live cartridges, a knife and a Zen Estillo car used during the crime have been recovered from the possession of those arrested.

Manish Saxena, Sector 20 SHO, said, “A team of the special operations group (SOG) arrived and tipped off us about some criminals who were driving in a Zen Estilo from Delhi’s Ashok Nagar towards Noida at 3 am.

When a joint team of Sector 20 police station and the SOG intercepted them near the Sector 15 drain, they tried to flee towards the Chilla regulator.”

SOG incharge Sanjeev Kumar told TOI that the six criminals involved the loot attempt at the store room abutting Sector 20 power substation were travelling in the Estilo.

“When they were intercepted, they fired at police and we retaliated accordingly. One of them Ram alias Bharat was shot at in his right leg. All of them are part of a bigger gang operating in Delhi,” he said.

He said Sandeep alias Satte and Raju were arrested while Ajay, Rinku and Vikas managed to escape. Kumar said the car belongs to Rinku’s brother-in-law.

Police said these criminals are operating under a bigger gang whose leaders are Ajay alias Mantri, Rinku and Vikas — all Delhi-based criminals.
