A drunk young woman turned aggressive when her parents came to her rescue in Paceville on Monday in the early hours of the morning.
The 24-year old igaming employee from Gudja ended up so drunk in Paceville that third parties called her parents asking them to come to her assistance.
Yet when the couple turned up in St Julian’s at around 1am, the young lady became aggressive, even turning upon police officers who intervened to calm down the situation.
“I’m willing to forgive her and take her back home,” her distraught father declared in court on Monday, taking the witness stand during the arraignment, his statement echoed a few moments later by the girl’s mother.
“She worries me,” the visibly concerned mother told the presiding magistrate when stepping onto the witness stand after last night’s incident, during which she had allegedly been scratched by her troublesome daughter. “However, I’m willing to take her back home.”
The now-sober young lady admitted to her wrongdoing, pleading guilty to having threatened the police, attacking her parents, causing her mother slight injuries, breaching the peace and refusing to obey lawful police orders.
She was further charged with having been drunk in public.
Presiding magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, informed the parents that in spite of their forgiveness, some of the offences as charged were prosecutable by the police ex ufficio and could not be withdrawn. “The law does not permit this,” the court explained.
Upon the woman’s guilty plea, she put off the case for judgment while upholding the request for bail against a personal guarantee of €1,500 and an obligation to sign the bail book once a week.
Judgment is to be delivered early in July.
