Police Commissioner seeks people’s cooperation to check crime

Police can maintain law and order and control crimes only with the cooperation of the public, said Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang.

‘e-Nethra’

He launched the new Closed Circuit (CC) cameras that were installed at different places in Governorpet area under the ‘e-Nethra’ programme, on Sunday.

The Cloth Merchants Association, Private Travels Association, Footwear Association, Lorry Transport Association, jewellery and other associations arranged for 178 surveillance cameras.

“The cameras will cover the main roads, shops, parking places and other commercial establishments and all vital points in Rajagopalachari Street, Hanumanpet and the busy Besant Road,” said Mr. Sawang and thanked the associations and the residents for their contribution for smooth implementation of the e-Nethra programme.

7,700 cameras

installed so far

Stating that 7,700 cameras have already been installed at different locations in the limits of Vijayawada Police Commissionerate, the Commissioner said that the cameras would help the police personnel prevent and detect crimes. CCTV footage have provided the vital clues for many sensational cases and helped those solved, he said.

The new cameras would be connected to the command and control room and to the police stations, the city police chief added.

Joint Commissioner of Police T.K. Rana, DCPs J. Brahma Reddy, Nawab Jaan, Sk. Shareen Begum and Amarnath, representatives of various associations, A Srikanth, Gupta Bhaskar, Kishore, Omini Kumar, K.J.N. Prasad and other traders participated in the programme.
