35 injured as truck overturns on NH-32

About 35 persons were injured as the truck they were travelling in overturned on NH-32 along a village under Chandil police station area in adjoining Saraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday morning.

Among the injured were mostly women contract workers and who were coming from Nimdih to Govindpur in the city for working at a construction site. All the injured were rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital emergency where 20 of them were released after first-aid.  The remaining 15 persons, including 11 women have been admitted.

According to the information, the mishap took place along Makulakedal village.  The Nimdih-Chandil NH-32 links to NH-33 in Chandil.  As the truck was moving, its brake failed, leading the heavy vehicle to be overturned.

One of the injured said the truck driver had tried to save them all in the face of brake-fail. "We are in state of shock everything happened all sudden. The driver was identified as Ramesh Singh Sardar (45). He tried to save but the truck ultimately overturned," said Sardar.  He said the driver and the cleaner of the truck have also sustained injuries.

The injured said after the mishap the injured were reeling without treatment at the spot for about an hour.  He said some villagers took them to the medical college hospital.

Condition of five of the women workers is said to be serious.  Those sustained serious injuries were identified Sati Hansda (32) Manjula Hansda (27), Salati Tuddu (30), and Vimla Singh Sardar (35) and Chanchala Devi (39), residents of the Nimdih.

OC, Nimdih police station, Pramod Kumar confirmed that the mishap took place due to failure of the truck's brake." We are investigating the incident. We had provided all possible assistance to rush the injured to MGM Medical College Hospital as soon as we got the information.  We have later seized the truck," said Kumar.

The OC, said he would get it inquired whether the truck had fitness certificate which is done by an MVI in every three months.
