Heathrow Airport third runway protestors have put Parliament on lockdown

A group of up to a dozen protestors are currently lying down in Parliament's central lobby, with police and security called to the scene.

MP Layla Moran posted a photo on Twitter of the protest, adding: "There are people lying down in central lobby chanting noisily. We think it’s about Heathrow. #flashmobprotest."

And BBC reporter Laura Kuenssberg said the protestors may be plotting to block MPs from accessing the House of Commons for tonight's crunch vote.

She posted: "Noisy protest in Central Lobby in last hour of the Heathrow debate - protestors lying on the floor - will they try to block MPs getting thro to vote?"

Heathrow vote: Protestors are blocking off Central Lobby in Parliament

The protestors are chanting "vote no, Heathrow". The lie-down is believed to be a reference Boris Johnson's pledge to lie down in front of bulldozers if the runway plan was approved.

Several police officers are in attendance but are currently making no attempt to remove the protestors.

MPs are scheduled to vote on the controversial third Heathrow runway plans at 10pm this evening.

It has not been confirmed whether the vote will go ahead as planned despite the protest.
