After Victory, Erdogan Promises to Strengthen Turkey

President says vote was fair as opposition considers whether to challenge results or admit defeat

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has ruled Turkey for 15 years, won "an absolute majority" in Sunday's poll, the country's election officials said. Official results are expected later in the week.

ANKARA, Turkey—President Recep Tayyip Erdogan returned to Turkey’s capital city in the early hours Monday to celebrate his twin victory in presidential and parliamentary elections as the opposition pondered whether to challenge the results or admit defeat.

Delivering a traditional balcony speech from the headquarters of his Justice & Development Party, or AKP, Mr. Erdogan vowed to roll up his sleeves to build a bigger and stronger Turkey.
