Emergency works at Toorak Road

More from Camberwell: There was no vehicle near the scene, but a sergeant found a semi-trailer with "some damage to it" about a kilometre away.

Police arrested the 44-year-old driver, who has since returned a positive drug test. He's expected to be charged with drug driving and other driving-related offences later this morning.

Emergency works continue on Toorak Road near Wattle Valley Road. Motorists coming in from the east are asked to avoid the area.

Truck driver leaves 'trail of destruction'

A truck driver has left a "trail of destruction" along a road in Melbourne's east, hitting powerpoles and trees before stopping a kilometre away.

Police were called to Camberwell early this morning after reports of fallen powerpoles. The officers found one pole fallen completely, another on a nasty lean and several trees also run over, a spokesman said.
